Such a lovely place to stay, very quiet and peaceful but near to all the lovely surrounding villages, we stayed in south Lodge a family of six and it was perfect as it has a family bathroom and an ensuite, there isn’t WiFi in the house but it didn’t bother us as we wanted a break from the norm (does you good to switch off) we lit the fire in the evenings and played games and watched DVD’s very relaxing, the accommodation is very clean and everything you would need, we took our dogs and there are so many walks to walk them, but best of all are the hosts nothing too much trouble and very helpful and the fresh eggs are delicious, thank you for a lovely stay we will be back.

Beautiful quiet place full of beautiful hills and valleys to explore, highly recommended to do the quad biking experience with John to explore the farming grounds.

Just home after a brilliant week in the courtyard cottages. Lovely safe location for the children to explore and play. Peaceful and relaxing holiday, thank you to all at Kirkwood.

If you want complete rest and relaxation in the most magical place, then this is definitely the place for you. Hidden away you’ll find a warm, clean cottage with red squirrels everywhere. Woodland walks, river annan within the grounds and excellent but un-intrusive customer service 5 star. A little piece of your dreams if you want a complete break.

I was lucky enough to spend a night here in Dalton Green Farmhouse and all I can say is WOW. It is perfect. Fantastic furnishings and fittings, a droolworthy 4 door Aga, and everything you need for a brilliant break. I chilled, (and fed the lambs) but if you want to be active, there’s lots to do, including fishing and walking. The village with its Thai restaurant is easily walkable, and the food there is good. I’m definitely going back for longer.

The comfortable independent accommodation, the remote quiet farm location, and the friendly able staff, combined with opportunities to roam, to see farm animals, to learn to ride quad bikes and more, afforded the perfect recipe for a great three generation family holiday.

Just returned from staying at one of the main cottages in the square as part of a group for a wedding (We had hired 3 of the 5 cottages). What a fantastic place to stay!! perfectly situated for easy reach to annan, lockerbie, moffat and springhill so travelling from such a remote location was great!! Fell in love with the remoteness but still had the creature comforts of WIFI in the middle of a forest!! Cannot wait to book again for next year but loved it so much that may even consider spending Xmas here as the snow will make the whole location magical!! Will certainly visit again as the staff were also very welcoming and hospitable!

Nice rural location, friendly staff, the kids enjoyed feeding the lambs and chickens, our older son did the quad biking (twice) and also went fly fishing. We have enjoyed our week and would come again.

I made a large group booking, choosing this venue as the farm has a few cottages overlooking a shared courtyard. The accommodation was of a good standard (and great value) and I would happily come back for a break here again. The location was amazing – a picturesque farm with walks around the grounds, and a village pub a couple of miles walk away (which serves really good quality thai food).
The staff were great – they are always nearby, working on the farm and always stopping to check up on us and make sure we had everything we needed. Given the large group it was hard for us to organise activities but the staff set up an obstacle course for us where we drove a tractor round one of the fields, followed by a tug of war!

Had a surprise tractor experience booked for me by my wonderful husband. It’s a dream come true and by the end of it I was buzzing. I certainly want to do it again. Would recommend it to anyone. The young man who instructed me was very patient and nothing was too much trouble for him

We booked some tractor rides, which were thoroughly enjoyed, and a quad bike tour of the farm. Jack was super friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend, and now wish I had booked accommodation because the cottages looked beautiful.

Anthony was very welcoming and very helpful. It was our first time experiencing quad bike and absolutely enjoyed it. He taught us very well and took us around his beautiful farm. We will visit again soon for sure.

Fantastic time at Kirkwood real farm cottages. Cottage was absolutely lovely, great attention to detail and immaculately clean, toilets, bathrooms, showers were lovely, beds very comfortable and lovely and warm. Bedding was beautiful. The farm was an absolute pleasure and haven for peace, animals and nature. Our well behaved dogs were made very welcome. The family that own the farm and cottages and all the staff are absolutely lovely and can’t do enough for you, we can’t recommend Kirkwood real farm holidays highly enough.

I spent Easter break at Kirkwood Cottages with family and friends (9 people) and everyone had the most amazing time, adults and kids and doggy. The surroundings are beautiful and calm, ideal to break away from stressful daily life: sort of in the middle of nowhere, yet with all the comfort and services we needed. Of course we were also very lucky weatherwise.
Totally recommended.

Having recently returned from yet another fishing holiday at Kirkwood (I believe that it was the 25th occasion we have stayed there), I am reminded once again why we continue to choose Kirkwood rather than look for other places to go and fish. The cottages are warm (in winter), well equipped, and very comfortable (we usually stay in Fox); the farmland and surrounding area are quite beautiful, particularly down by the river and completely unspoilt; Anthony, Anne and their staff always make us feel very welcome, and simply could not be more helpful; finally for a keen fisherman, the Kirkwood stretch of the Annan river has its fair share of salmon and sea trout during the season, and holds a good number of weighty brown trout as well. As the whole package works so well for us, I see no reason why we won’t as usual be back again this year and for several years to come.

I have been a regular visitor to Kirkwood holiday cottages for more than 10 years. Normally visiting in the spring for a week and then again in the late summer for 10 days or a fortnight. The main reason for my visits is to go fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout with often really spectacular results. But this is fishing and more particularly salmon fishing where all bets are off. – You can sometimes do no wrong and there are plenty of fish caught and at other times no matter what you do the fish remain elusive. What I have learned though is that the chances of “hooking up” is largely down to the river conditions on the day; when the river is up and coloured, it is mainly good but when the river is low and clear the chances are low.
Anyway, enough of fishing and I will now continue with my review about Kirkwood for those who are not anglers. Firstly, the surroundings are outstandingly beautiful and peaceful. Just to wander through the woods or to stroll in the fields down by the river is a fantastic and relaxing experience with plenty of wildlife in evidence. – Apart from the farm livestock there are otters, deer, foxes, badgers and a myriad of other animals and birds to see. Also, because the land is not farmed intensively the flora is diverse and abundant. – A large proportion of the estate is woodland with some other areas that are not cultivated at all making for a rich environment of biodiverse habitats.
The cottages are excellent being well appointed, clean, quiet, comfortable and homely with all of the equipment one might need on a self-catering holiday. The owners and staff are amazingly friendly, helpful and welcoming. – If you need advice, ideas or assistance with anything it is but a phone call or conversation away and that personal touch is worth much. To conclude, anyone looking to get away from it all in a tranquil and beautiful part of the country will not be disappointed. I certainly will be returning again soon!
